I recently discovered Archival, and what first caught my attention was not simply a bottle. It was the story behind the company.
A philosophy worth exploring
Archival searches for remarkable wines and brings them to market at fair, more attainable prices. Some details—vineyards, winemakers, wineries, and sources—may remain discreet. That tension between discovery and mystery is part of what intrigued me.
They work in the long tradition of the négociant: finding opportunities within the wine world, drawing on relationships and experience, and offering wines that might otherwise feel beyond reach.
After tasting Parallax 011, my first thought was: these guys are the Quince of wine.
The bottle that began it
Parallax 011 is a 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder. It was my introduction to Archival, and it completely exceeded my expectations—the kind of bottle that reminds me why I love exploring wine in the first place.
For me, the appeal was not simply value. It was the chance to taste a beautifully made, thoughtfully sourced wine with a story still partially hidden behind the label. It felt like a hidden gem, which is exactly what made the discovery so memorable.
